DirecTV Vs. Dish Network

DirecTV Vs. Dish Network
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jay_Carmichael]Jay Carmichael

In the North American world of satellite TV, there are only two major players in the high tech arena of Satellite TV. DirecTV and Dish Network. This revelation begs the following question, DirecTV vs. Dish Network, which is right for me? Read the following article with your pen in hand. Use the following information to discover which service will best suit your needs.

Both DirecTV and Dish Network are very similar with great products and top notch customer service but there are several notable differences that should be mentioned. First is the pricing structure. Dish network is set up to be a little cheaper to enter while DirecTV is designed to offer more choice. Direct TV has been around longer while boasting a larger user base than Dish Network. DirecTV does also offer some exclusive programming that dish network can not offer such as the NFL Sunday Ticket package, TV One, Fine Living, Fox Reality, and PBS Kids. The NFL Sunday Ticket Package offers a great view of just about every NFL football game in the season, however, Dish network does a good job at hitting the more common channels for a decent price.

Now, let us get to what this is really about, bring on the channels!

Dish Network Packages

Americas top 60: 60 Chan / $26.99 month / $31.99 with local

America's Top 60 Plus: 90+ Chan / $36.99 with locals

Americas top 120 : 120+ Chan / 37.99 / 42.99 with locals

Americas top 180 : 180+ Chan / $47.99 / $52.99 with locals

America's "Everything" Pak : 230+ Chan / 81.99 / 86.99 with locals

Direct TV

Total Choice: 135 Chan / 41.99 with locals

Total Choice Plus: 155+ Chan / 45.99 with locals

Total Choice Premier: 215+ Chan / 93.99 with locals

As you see, Dish Network gives an overall cheaper entry product while DirecTV offers more channels, but which is a better deal? In order to answer this question, I will take both service's entry level product and divide the price by the number of channels offered to see what I call "the more channels per dollar number". To make this comparison more accurate, I am using the price that includes local channels. This is because Direct TV offers free local channels in all of its Total Choice packages.

Dish network’s entry level package with local channels is $31.99 for over 60 channels which is .53 cents a channel per month. DirecTV offers 135 channels at $41.99 which comes in at .31 cents per channel per month. So my interpretation of the numbers amounts to the following. If price is your biggest concern, and you are happy with the basic lineup, go with Dish Network. If you want a lot of channels with the best bang for your buck, you can’t go wrong with DirecTV.

DISH Network Free Satellite TV Installation Guide

DISH Network Free Satellite TV Installation Guide
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Brian_Stevens]Brian Stevens

Before you begin the satellite TV installation you need to determine where the best place is to mount the satellite dish. You need to have an unobstructed view of the southern sky, and the dish can be mounted on your roof, on the side of your home, on a porch, or even in your yard.

Note: If you live in an apartment or condo, or you have a strict home owner's association, you may need permission to mount your satellite dish on the outside of your home.

Once the dish is mounted the next step is routing the cable from the dish to the locations in your home where the satellite TV receivers will be placed. If your home is large, or the space between the walls is filled, this may take some time.

After the cable has been installed it is attached to the receivers and the receivers are then connected to your TVs.

Last, but not least, the dish is aimed toward the DISH Network satellite in order to get the correct azimuth (direction), skew (rotation), and elevation (angle). This is done using the elevation indicator on the dish, a compass, and the signal strength meter from the DISH Network on-screen menu to fine tune the dish for maximum reception.

DISH Network Satellite TV System

A DISH Network satellite TV systems consists of the following:

* Satellite TV dish - captures the signal beamed down from a DISH Network satellite.

* LNB (low noise block) converter - amplifies and converts the satellite TV signal and sends it to a receiver.

* Satellite TV receiver - processes the satellite TV signal and sends it to a TV.

When you order satellite TV service from DISH Network all the equipment you need for satellite TV viewing is free. Installation of the systems in up to four rooms of your home is also free. The installer will even show you how to operate your system and answer any questions you may have.

In addition to the free receivers you receive, you have the option of ordering a free HD (high definition) receiver for high definition viewing or a free DVR (digital video recorder) receiver so you can digitally record your favorite programs. For an additional $199 you can order a combination HD/DVR receiver.

DISH Network Satellite TV Programming

Satellite TV Is Crowned King

Satellite TV Is Crowned King
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=H._Randolph]H. Randolph

Satellite television is knocking cable out of the box. It is obvious that cable television is by far the least advanced when compared to satellite television. With satellite television, you will get more channels while saving a whole lot of money.

Satellite television can support over 250 channels of programming. All channels are digital quality and offer HD (high definition) television services that are compatible to your satellite TV service.

Satellite television fees for Dish Network start at $31.99/month, while DirecTV charges $41.99/month. Both satellite television providers offer free satellite TV equipment and free installation in up to four rooms.

Cable television fees average $39.99/month for 64 channels, plus $10.95/month to add digital channels. Installation in one room is $39.95, plus $9.95 for each additional room.

Satellite television offers the biggest variety of shows, movies, sports, and news for the least amount of money. You can watch all your shows in digital video and sound with the option of watching them in HD format and recording them on a DVR (digital video recording) receiver.

Cable television outages average 3% to 5% per year while satellite television outages average about 1%. J.D. Power and Associates ranked Dish Network and DirecTV -- higher in customer satisfaction than any of the cable television companies for the last five years.

What Satellite Internet Service Can Do For You

What Satellite Internet Service Can Do For You
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Stephen_Long]Stephen Long

Do you live in rural America outside of your local Cable or DSL provider and can't get connected to the Internet?

Many of our rural areas do not have immediate access to the Internet through their local cable provider. These providers work on Supply and Demand. If there is not a high demand for high speed in your neighborhood, they will not install the DSL or Cable landlines in your area for you to access the Internet.

Perhaps your local provider is being bought out by another provider that does not support cable or DSL. What they may offer is a later date connection on their own Scheduled for future installs, they work on their own contracted dates, even if there is a high demand. Meaning you could be waiting over a year for high-speed access.

There is a answer to the problem. It's called Satellite Internet Access. How this works is very much like Satellite television. With Satellite Internet service, you are receiving a direct feed from your Providers Satellite directly into your own home.

Your home is installed with the proper satellite equipment and a receiver that feeds directly to a Satellite in space. This gives you direct access to the Internet through a satellite signal, the signal than transmits back to your receiver. The signals are transmitted much like a cell phone and any other mobile devices.

There are two types of transmitters, the One-way and the Two Way. We highly suggest installing a 2-way Satellite Internet service. What that means is, unlike the one way, which feeds the outgoing signal through a telephone landline and then to your providers Server, then to the Satellite, back to your home PC.

The 2-way Satellite directly transmits the signal to the Satellite and directly back to your home. With the properly installed equipment, it is as simple as click and go. This device will provide you with the most direct and fastest way to obtain access to the Internet.

The 2-way satellite system is an upgrade compared to the 1-way in costs; however, you are receiving a direct signal, which is well worth the speed and resolution. The Satellite dish will need to face in the direction of the South. You may experience some interference with your satellite signal depending on weather. However, more often than not, you should be online 24/7.

2-way satellite Internet service provides you the high-speed broadband Internet access solution that you have been waiting for.

Put an end to your slow Internet access. [http://www.wildbluesatellite.net]Wild Blue Satellite Internet access is your best choice to bring you [http://www.wildbluesatellite.net]high speed internet access.

Satellite Radio Guide For Novice Users

Satellite Radio Guide For Novice Users
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sardool_Sikandar]Sardool Sikandar

A satellite radio or subscription radio (SR) is a digital radio that receives signals broadcast by communications satellite that covers a much wider geographical range than normal radio signals.

The satellite radios function anywhere there is line of sight between the antenna and the satellite, given there are no major obstructions, such as tunnels or buildings. SR audiences can follow a single channel regardless of location within a given range.

As the technology requires access to a commercial satellite for signal propagation, SR services are commercial business entities (not private parties), which offer a package of channels as part of their service —requiring a subscription from end users to access its channels.

The satellite radios use the 2.3GHz S band in North America, and generally shares the 1.4GHz L band with local Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) stations elsewhere. It is a type of direct broadcast satellite, and is strong enough that it requires no satellite dish to receive. Curvature of the Earth limits the reach of the signal, but due to the high orbit of the satellites, two or three are usually sufficient to provide coverage for an entire continent.

Presently, the main radio satellite service provider in Europe, Asia and Africa is WorldSpace. WorldSpace has its own satellites covering most of Europe, Asia and Africa.

XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio are the two radio satellite gains in the United States and entire North America. A monthly fee is charged for both services. Sirius offers a one time fee plan of nearly $500 valid for the lifetime of the equipment. These offer the news, weather, sports, and several music channels.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) commenced the Canada's first satellite radio operations on November 1, 2004.

How Does Satellite Radio Work

How Does Satellite Radio Work?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ian_Henman]Ian Henman

There’s been a big push in the consumer electronics industry lately. It’s been the movement towards satellite radio, but one of the biggest questions being asked is how does this technology work?

How do you get all of these fantastic stations tuned into one satellite radio receiver? There’s a lot more going on behind the scenes then just clicking the on button. How is it possible the signal can be so crystal clear?

Well first off you need to decide on a provider. IN the US there are two main providers: XM radio and Sirius. Each station provides fantastic satellite radio programming, and the way each service works is very similar so there isn’t a big learning curve between the two. How ever the type of programming that each provider offers varies, so depending on your listening habits you should consider this closely. In Canada XS is currently the only provider available. Hence there really isn’t a big choice for you to make there.

After you’ve decided on a provider you need to run down to your local consumer electronics store and pick up a satellite radio receiver, or purchase one online. The Satellite radio itself is the second most important component in the system, and in discovering how satellite radio works.

Different satellite radio receivers are designed to unscramble signals that are sent from satellites orbiting earth. Each satellite radio service launches satellites into orbit; the provider will then send encrypted signals to each satellite. These orbiting satellites send the signals back down to us. When a subscriber selects a particular satellite station their radio receiver the radio decodes the signal sent from the satellite and provides the requested station.

So you can see that satellite radio behaves similarly to traditional radio. A signal is broadcast, and our radios at home and in our cars pick it up. However traditional signals are broadcast over the airwaves while satellite radio is provided via the satellites in space. Unlike traditional radio, which at times isn’t the cleanest sound, satellite radio provides users with a clear sound no matter how far away from their local city they are. There is minimal range limit with a satellite radio signal, so it’s possible to continue to listen to the exact same station almost no anywhere.

Watch Satellite TV Online

Watch Satellite TV Online
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Anthony_Lee]Anthony Lee

An area being ventured into by Satellite providers is 'Online Satellite TV' which allows a viewer to view online content streamed directly from a Satellite. And the good news is, some website offer the service either free or for a small fee.

There is a wide variety of online Satellite content providers primarily from the US and Europe.

Unlike with a standard Satellite subscription, you no longer need to install a dish to receive the transmissions from the Satellite. The receiving station does all this work for you by acting as the recipient of the satellites transmission and then they stream the broadcast on the web for your convenience.

All you need is your home PC and broadband connection and you should be good to go!

Although your PC has to meet the minimum requirements since most Satellite feeds are LIVE streaming video. This demands a mid to high-end video graphics card and at least 512 MB of memory to handle the transmission load.

Your broadband connection should also be adequate enough to carry the load. If you can get a bandwidth of at least 700kb to 1 Mb from your broadband provider, that would be better.

If you are going to use a PC, make sure that you're using an updated Operating system so that you get better picture quality. The more updated your operating system is, the better video drivers will be available on the PC. This will result in a crisper, fuller video image on the screen.

Online Satellite TV also offers a variety of content to suit each viewer's preference. From TV shows, Music videos, documentaries, and even live footage of news clips you will find them all online streamed via satellite.

There is also a host of satellite viewing software that you can download from the Internet free of charge. Once it's set you can go and watch all the Satellite TV you can handle at no additional cost.

The other added benefit of viewing Satellite TV online is its better video quality. And as long the signal from the broadcasting website has a clear line of sight to the sending satellite, you should be able to get hours of free, uninterrupted, high quality video on your desktop PC!

Does Satellite TV For PC Work?

Does Satellite TV For PC Work?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Donnie_Manning]Donnie Manning

That certainly is a good question because with so many scams, and copy cat services around, any reasonable consumer would want to know about a new technology before jumping on board. Understandably Satellite TV has been criticized by a few due to inadequate programming and low quality technology.

When I first heard about satellite TV for PC my initial reaction was "why would anybody want to watch TV on a PC". Then later I started hearing about many of the soccer enthusiasts in some of the Latin American countries using this technology to watch the world cup.

There are a variety of ways to obtain your programming. One form of satellite TV can be viewed over websites that feature international feeds. These offer a variety of news, sports, and entertainment many of which lack quality of standards. This could be the source of the bad reputation of what many had come to know as satellite TV for PC.

A greater percentage t of satellite TV on the internet is less than desirable. However there is a small group of providers that are taking this new technology to new levels of audio and visual quality. Before the current enhanced software was used satellite TV users had to have special video cards and sometimes modifications to their home computer.

Now it's possible to install a small piece of software, open it and you are online and ready to watch hundreds of channels in spectacular color, with awesome sound quality. Satellite TV does work. But it is important to find the right provider with, current up to date technology to make it really work well for you.

Donnie Manning is a net researcher and website owner always looking for different ways to use the internet. Did you like this info on satellite TV's capabilities?
